Matt Calvert scores shootout winner as Brandon edges Calgary 2-1 @NHLdotcom

BRANDON, Man. - Brandonite Matt Calvert scored the winning goal in a shootout as the Brandon Wheat Kings beat the Calgary Hitmen 2-1 in the Western Hockey League on Saturday night.

The Wheat Kings won the shootout 2-0, with Calvert's fellow rookie linemate Brayden Schenn also scoring for Brandon.

Both regulation goals were scored in the first period, with Brock Nixon scoring first for the Hitmen, who lead the Eastern Conference with a 43-17-1-4 record.

Defenceman Daryl Boyle tied it up for the Wheat Kings, who improved to 39-22-2-2.

Brandon netminder Joe Caligiuri made 27 saves, while Martin Jones stopped 25 shots for Calgary.
