EDMONTON - The Edmonton Oilers got some very good news regarding the status of defenceman Mathieu Roy.
The 24-year-old from St-Georges, Que., was taken off the ice on a stretcher after being checked into the boards by Vancouver's Rick Rypien during the third period of an NHL pre-season game Saturday.
He was released from hospital later Saturday after doctors determined there was no structural damage to his neck.
"He's stiff and sore but doing well," a team spokesman said Monday.
Roy played 16 NHL games and 31 with the AHL farm team in Hamilton last season.
