Martin Frk 2.22

Martin Frk signed a two-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday. It has an average annual value of $725,000.

"I did want to stay here, you know," Frk said. "It was really nice when I [got] the offer, and now I can be more settled and can enjoy two more years here, which I have really enjoyed, and L.A. [has been] really good to me so far."
The forward, who could have become a restricted free agent July 1, has six points (five goals, one assist) in eight NHL games. He scored two goals against the San Jose Sharks on Dec. 27 in his first game after being recalled from Ontario of the American Hockey League and has scored in each of his past two games.
"I had to go to the minors, try to work hard to get the call-up. I think I deserved to get the call-up," said Frk, who had 36 points (23 goals, 13 assists) in 37 games with Ontario. "Now I've just got to take my opportunity and stay in this league. This is the best league in the world and you want to play in it, so every day you have to give everything to stay here. When you get sent down to the AHL, you just realize what you need to do, what you need to get better every day, and then just wait for the opportunity to get back up."
Frk has 37 points (17 goals, 20 assists) in 108 NHL games with the Kings, Carolina Hurricanes and Detroit Red Wings, who selected him in the second round (No. 49) of the 2012 NHL Draft. The Kings signed Frk as a free agent on July 1, 2019.
He took part in the 2020 AHL All-Star Game, where he set a North American record for hardest shot at 109.2 mph during the skills competition on Jan. 26.
"The shot at the [AHL] All-Star [skills competition], that was kind of a special deal," Frk said. "But every game is pretty much for me a highlight. I love playing games, you know, now with the big team. Definitely my dream to be here in the top league and just enjoy it."
The Kings (22-34-5) host the Colorado Avalanche at Staples Center on Saturday (10:30 p.m. ET; FS-W, ALT, NHL.TV).
