Marleau ties game, then surging Sharks beat Kings 3-2 in shootout @NHL

LOS ANGELES - Patrick Marleau tied the score with a short-handed goal and the San Jose Sharks topped the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 in a shootout on Monday night and set an NHL mark for the best record through the first 30 games of the season.

Ryane Clowe scored a power-play goal in the first period and got the deciding goal in the shootout.

The Sharks improved to 25-3-2 with their 12th victory in 13 games and 19th in the past 22. The closest team in the Western Conference - the defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings - fell eight points back after their 3-2 loss to Colorado.
