Kunitz opened the scoring just 1:50 into the game on Anaheim's first shot, when he stuffed in a shot from beside the net for his fifth goal. It was set up by Detroit defenceman Brad Stuart's giveaway behind his own net.

The Red Wings gave up a goal on the opponent's first shot for the second consecutive game. Franzen's goal came on Detroit's 32nd shot.
