Philadelphia Flyers coach Peter Laviolette was obviously horrified by what transpired at the Boston Marathon on Monday.
But he was also relieved.
Laviolette is a native of nearby Franklin, Mass., and his sister was in attendance at the Marathon when two bombs went off roughly 20 seconds apart, killing at least three people and injuring dozens of others.
"It's terrible, it really is," Laviolette said after his Flyers earned a 7-3 victory Monday against the Montreal Canadiens. "My family's from there, my sister was there and it's just devastating. You read the reports, and I'm sure it's probably going to get worse and more gruesome as it unfolds.
"It's just a real tragic event."
