Mara signs one-year deal with Canadiens @NHL
The Montreal Canadiens continued to add new faces Friday, signing defenseman Paul Mara to a one-year contract.

The 29-year-old native of Ridgewood, N.J., had 5 goals and 21 points in 76 games with the New York Rangers last season.

At 6-foot-4 and 212 pounds, Mara brings additional size to a Montreal defense corps that recently added 6-7, 250-pound Hal Gill.

"Paul Mara will bring size and experience to our group of defensemen," said Canadiens GM Bob Gainey. "He can contribute to all facets of the game."

The seventh pick of the 1997 Entry Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning, Mara has 239 points and 640 penalty minutes in 639 NHL games with the Lightning, Coyotes, Bruins and Rangers.
