TORONTO (AP) -The Toronto Maple Leafs put goaltender Andrew Raycroft on unconditional waivers Friday and will buy out the final year of his contract.

He was due to earn $2.2 million next season.

"We decided to go that route," general manager Cliff Fletcher said. "We wish Andrew all the best."

Raycroft spent two years in Toronto, but was relegated to the backup role last season after the Maple Leafs traded for Vesa Toskala.

The Maple Leafs bought out the final three years of forward Darcy Tucker's contract earlier this week.
