TORONTO (AP) -Maple Leafs first-round draft pick Luke Schenn scored the shootout winner on Monday night to give Toronto a 4-3 preseason victory over the St. Louis Blues.
Fans at the Air Canada Centre chanted, "Luuuke" when the defenseman was selected as a shooter. The 19-year-old then skated in and beat Manny Legace with a backhand deke move.
Niklas Hagman scored two goals in regulation for Toronto, and Alex Steen added a third.
Brad Boyes, David Backes and Andy McDonald replied for the Blues.
The Leafs gave up a third period lead for the third straight game when McDonald got free and tipped a nice pass from Lee Stempniak behind Toskala at 11:46.
Hagman's second goal, at 10:42 of the third period put Toronto ahead 3-2. He came out from the side of the goal and slid the puck around Legace.
Toronto had the best chance to end the game in overtime after a penalty on Blues defenseman Eric Brewer, but Legace managed to get his glove on Tomas Kaberle's shot, setting the stage for the shootout.
