Mahalak makes 30 saves as the Whalers shutout the Generals 5-0

Matt Mahalak got the call on Friday night and made 30 saves as the Plymouth Whalers shutout the Oshawa Generals 5-0 in Ontario Hockey League action.

Andy Bathgate had a pair of goals for the Whalers (22-8-3) while Stefan Noesen, Rickard Rakell and Alex Aleardi added singles.

Kevin Bailie allowed five goals on 39 shots in the loss for the Generals (13-17-4).

Plymouth went 2-for-6 on the power play as Oshawa failed to score on five opportunities with the man advantage.

Mahalak earned his first shutout of the season in replacement of starting goalie Scott Wedgewood who is away with Team Canada at the World Juniors.
