MacLean scores in shootout as East beats West in OHL all-star game @NHLdotcom

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. - Brett MacLean tied the game late then scored the only goal in the shootout and the Eastern Conference beat the Western Conference 8-7 Wednesday in a high-scoring Ontario hockey League all-star game.

MacLean scored after phenom John Tavares missed on his first attempt.

For the West, neither highly-touted prospect Steve Stamkos nor teammates Jack Combs and Chris Terry could beat East goaltender Bryan Pitton.

MacLean sent the game to the shootout when he scored with 33 seconds in regulation.

Bobby Sanguinetti scored twice for the East, and Matt Beleskey added a goal and two assists. Michael Swift, Shawn Matthias and Nathan Moon had the other goals.

Stamkos had a goal and two assists for the West, with Dustin Jeffrey, Justin DiBenedetto, Wes Cunningham, Michael Caruso, Nick Spaling and Patrick Maroon also scoring. Yannick Weber had three assists and Justin Azevedo added two helpers.

Pitton and Mike Murphy combined for 31 savers for the East, while Jeremy Smith and Kyle Gajewski teamed up to make 43 saves for the West.
