MacLean interviewed for Penguins coaching job @NHL

Doug MacLean interviewed for the Pittsburgh Penguins coaching vacancy but said he is not a finalist, he confirmed Thursday on the "Hockey Central" radio show on FAN 590 in Toronto.

MacLean coached the Florida Panthers to the Stanley Cup Final in 1996 and has worked more recently in broadcasting, co-hosting "Hockey Central" with Nick Kypreos and Daren Millard.

In his first season as an NHL coach, MacLean guided the Panthers, in their third year of existence, to a 41-31-10 record. Florida qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time and advanced to the Final before getting swept by the Colorado Avalanche.

MacLean coached the Panthers back to the playoffs the following season, when they lost in the first round to the New York Rangers. He was fired 23 games into the 1997-98 season.

MacLean coached the Columbus Blue Jackets for parts of two seasons during his tenure as general manager from 1998-2007. He has an NHL record of 107-114-4 with 41 ties in 266 games.
