BRAMPTON, Ont. - The Plymouth Whalers went into action Thursday night having scored the most goals in the Ontario Hockey League.
Unfortunately for them, the Brampton Battalion had given up the least.
The Whalers were held to nine shots overall and none in the second period as the Battalion skated to a 3-0 win, strengthening their hold atop the Eastern Conference's Central Division.
Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Sam Carrick, Derek Froats and Matt MacLeod scored for Brampton (25-11-8) who picked up their second consecutive win. Matej Machovsky turned aside each of the nine shots he faced to pick up his league-leading fifth shutout of the season.
"It's great to be able to contribute offensively," said Froats, who was recently acquired in a trade with the Kingston Frontenacs. "We played a solid 60 minutes today and kept our focus."
Brampton native Scott Wedgewood stopped 32 of the 35 shots sent his way for Plymouth (30-12-3) who still lead the Western Conference's West Division by 12 points.
