VANCOUVER - The Vancouver Giants rebounded from a weak effort and thoroughly outshot the Prince George Cougars en route to a 4-2 win in Western Hockey League action Sunday night.

After losing 3-1 the Kootenay Ice Saturday, the Giants came out gunning, out-shooting the Cougars 24-2 in the first period and 50-19 in the game. Spencer Machacek had three points and Garet Hunt had a goal and an assist in the win. Craig Schira and Craig Cunningham added goals for Vancouver (37-13-1-5).

Patrik Magnusson and Parker Stanfield scored third-period goals for the Cougars in a failed comeback attempt.

Kraymer Barnstable, in a rare start, made 17 saves to even his record to 3-3-0-0. Real Cyr (8-21-1-2) stopped 46 shots in the losing effort.

Vancouver opened the scoring with a power play goal from Schira. The defenceman's shot beat Cyr from the high slot at 3:11, with Machacek and Neil Manning drawing the assists.

Machacek then doubled the lead when he scored his 29th of the season with just 15 seconds left in the first. Hunt made it 3-0 when his snap shot beat Cyr at 16:03 of the second, from Machacek and Mitch Czibere.

With a delayed penalty coming up, Cunningham scored a short-handed goal, his ninth of the season, just 23 seconds into the third, with Mario Bliznak earning the lone assist.

However, just 47 seconds later Prince George finally got on the board with a power-play goal. Magnusson notched his eighth, with Greg Gardner and Brad Riege assisting.

Prince George made it interesting when Stanfield potted Kalvin Sagert's rebound to beat Barnstable at 6:44 on the power play.

Prince George (15-38-1-3) has just one win in their last 11 games.
