KENNEWICK, Wash. - Brooks Macek scored in overtime to lead the Tri-City Americans to a 2-1 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds in Western Hockey League action Wednesday.
For 55 minutes, the Americans and Thunderbirds were locked in scoreless tie. It took a video replay to award Seattle a goal and a power play for the Americans to tie the game.
Tri-City (32-11-1) remains atop the U.S. Division and Western Conference, while Seattle (14-23-7) moved within five points of Kelowna in a race for a for a playoff spot.
Seattle's Chance Lund was awarded a goal at 15:21 of the third period after video review showed the puck crossed the goal-line before the Americans swept it out of the crease.
Tri-City's Brendan Shinnimin scored on the power play with 1:33 left in regulation to tie the game.
The Americans' Drew Owsley made 24 saves for his league-leading 28th win of the season, while Calvin Pickard had 30 saves for Seattle.
