GAME: Los Angeles Kings (28-26-16-8) at Colorado Avalanche (38-22-13-5).
TIME: Monday, 9 p.m. EST.
Even though the Colorado Avalanche have already clinched a playoff berth, a
winless streak late this late in the season is hardly good news.
A winless slide for the Los Angeles Kings, still fighting for a postseason
spot, has been far more disastrous.
Both teams look to shake their slumps when they meet at the Pepsi Center.
The Avalanche have gone 0-5-1 over their last six games, but still lead the
Northwest Division by one point over Vancouver.
They lost 2-0 to Detroit on Saturday, the second time they have been shut
out during their winless streak.
"We're at the lowest point of the season right now," winger Milan Hejduk
said. "Nothing works."
The Avalanche have scored just seven goals during their slide. Colorado is
tied with Dallas for third in the Western Conference, but would have the third
seed for the first round as a division leader.
The Kings are in 10th place in the West, five points behind Nashville and
Edmonton for the eighth and final playoff spot with four games remaining.
Los Angeles lost 3-2 to Calgary on Saturday, falling to 0-6-0-1 over its
last seven games.
"Now, we just play for our pride, play for our fans," forward Sean Avery
said. "For the guys in here that have battled all year, we have to do it for
Kings coach Andy Murray kept leading goal-scorer Alexander Frolov, Martin
Straka and defenseman Jaroslav Modry out of the lineup, hoping to shake up his
team. Averaging just 1.7 goals during the winless streak, Los Angeles responded
by outshooting Calgary 29-24.
Winger Trent Klatt is the only player to have appeared in all 78 of the
Kings' games this season.
