Los Angeles Kings forward Dwight King is out after sustaining an injury blocking a shot in a preseason game Saturday, coach Darryl Sutter said Monday according to LA Kings Insider.
"[King's] going to be out for an extended period of time," Sutter said.
King, who was hurt in the first period against the Colorado Avalanche in Las Vegas, had 13 goals and 26 points in 81 games last season.
Defensemen Jake Muzzin and Matt Greene are doubtful for the season opener, Sutter said, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Muzzin, who usually is partnered with Drew Doughty on the Kings' top defense pairing, set personal NHL-bests last season with 10 goals and 41 points in 76 games. He averaged 22:41 of ice time per game, and his 58.14 5-on-5 shot-attempts percentage led all defensemen to play more than 40 games last season.
Greene had three goals and nine points in 82 games, and averaged 15:48 of ice time per game.
The Kings open the season Oct. 7 at home against the San Jose Sharks (10:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN).
