OWEN SOUND, Ont. - The Owen Sound Attack leaned on a pair of heroes Wednesday night - one expected, one not so much.
Mike Lomas had a hat trick and Joe Vanni added his first two goals of the season to lift the Attack to a 5-2 win over the visiting Barrie Colts in Ontario Hockey League action.
Lomas scored twice in a three-goal first period and completed the hat trick just past the midway point of the game as the Attack (11-10-4-2) extended their point streak to five games (3-0-1-1). Lomas is second on the team with 13 goals.
Vanni's first goal at 14:02 of the first period boosted the Attack's lead to 2-0, and he added some insurance at 13:04 of the second Vanni, 18, entered the game with just two goals in 62 career OHL games.
Colin Behenna and Darren Archibald scored for the Colts (12-14-1-1), who lost despite outshooting the Attack 44-38 overall.
Scott Stajcer earned the win with a 42-save performance for Owen Sound.
Michael Hutchinson and Peter Di Salvo combined to stop 33 shots for Barrie.
