CALGARY - The longest-tenured coach in the NHL is getting his first chance with Canada's national team.
Lindy Ruff has been named head coach of the Canadian team for the upcoming IIHF World Hockey Championship in Switzerland.
He recently completed his 11th season with the Buffalo Sabres and will have another longtime NHL coach as his assistant - Nashville's Barry Trotz.
Dave Tippett of the Dallas Stars will also be on Ruff's coaching staff.
Canada opens the world championship against Belarus on April 24.
The team's initial roster is expected to be announced on Monday.
