REGINA - Linden Rowat stopped 30 shots to record his first shutout of the year and lead the Regina Pats to a 2-0 victory over the Spokane Chiefs in Western Hockey League action Wednesday night.
Jordan Eberle opened the scoring with a power-play goal for Regina (15-8-1-3). Eberle extended his scoring streak to five games.
Garrett Mitchell made it a 2-0 game when he leapt and knocked down a clearing attempt with his hand then blasted a slapshot at Spokane goalie Dustin Tokarski. The rebound made its way back to Mitchell, who made good on his second attempt with another hard slapshot.
Spokane (14-7-0-3) revved up the pressure in the third and out-shot Regina 10-1. But good defence from the Pats and great goaltending from Rowat kept the defending Memorial Cup champions from getting on the scoresheet.
The shutout marks Rowat's (9-1-1-1) ninth in the Western Hockey League. Tokarski (12-7-0-2), who came into the game with the league's best goals against average (1.78), made 23 saves in the loss.
