With the 48th selection in the 2017 NHL Draft, the Tampa Bay Lightning selected Alexander Volkov, a 19-year-old, left-handed shot forward from Russia.

For SKA-1946 St. Petersburg of the MHL, the Russian junior league, Volkov recorded six goals and five assists in 16 games in 2016-17. He also added four points (2 goals, 2 assists) in four playoff games.
The pick the Lightning used to select Volkov was Toronto's second round pick, which the Bolts obtained when they traded Brian Boyle to the Maple Leafs prior to the 2017 trade deadline.
Volkov is listed at 6-foot-1, 194 pounds and plays the right wing.
