ThirstForTheCup: Lightning clinch Presidents' Trophy

The Tampa Bay Lightning became the first team to clinch a berth in the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs when the Montreal Canadiens lost 8-2 to the Anaheim Ducks on Friday.

The Lightning (51-13-4) can finish no worse than third in the Atlantic Division. They lead the Boston Bruins by 15 points for first in the division.
Tampa Bay has made the playoffs five out of six seasons since 2013-14 (missed in 2016-17) and has advanced to at least the Eastern Conference Final each of the past three times it has qualified for the postseason. It lost in seven games to the Washington Capitals in the conference final last season.
The Lightning are led by Nikita Kucherov, who has tied their record with 108 points this season and leads the NHL with 77 assists. Brayden Point (37 goals), Steven Stamkos (34) and Kucherov (31) are three of 10 Tampa Bay players with at least 10 goals.
Andrei Vasilevskiy (31-8-4, 2.24 goals-against average, .931 save percentage, six shutouts) won 12 straight decisions before a 3-0 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Thursday, and backup Louis Domingue, who is 19-5-0, won 11 straight games from Nov. 29-Feb. 19.
Tampa Bay plays the Detroit Red Wings at home Saturday (7 p.m. ET; SUN, FS-D, NHL.TV).
