Lightning claim Poulin off waivers, release Emery

by Staff

The Tampa Bay Lightning claimed goaltender Kevin Poulin off waivers from the New York Islanders and released goalie Ray Emery from his professional tryout on Sunday.

Poulin had an .899 save percentage and a 3.07 goals-against average in 50 games with the Islanders. He went 16-21-7 with a 2.87 GAA and .912 save percentage in 45 games last season for Bridgeport of the American Hockey League. He will compete with Kristers Gudlevskis to back up Ben Bishop in place of Andrei Vasilevskiy, who is expected to be sidelined until at least November after having vascular surgery on Sept. 3.

Emery appeared in two preseason games for the Lightning. He allowed six goals on 26 shots in a 6-3 loss to the Dallas Stars on Saturday.
