CRANBROOK, B.C. - Nathan Lieuwen made 35 saves in a goaltender's duel with Luke Siemens as the Kooteny Ice edged the Moose Jaw Warriors 2-1 in Western Hockey League action Saturday.
Siemens made 36 saves for the Warriors in a game that remained scoreless until 6:48 into the third period.
Kootenay's Max Reinhart opened the scoring with his sixth goal of the season as he jumped on a rebound that Siemens couldn't cover and tucked it past him.
With just under a minute left Ice captain Drew Czerwonka blocked a Warrior shot along the boards and raced after it to put it into the empty net for a 2-0 lead.
The goal stood up as the game-winner however when the Warriors pulled Siemens again and finally solved Nathan Lieuwen when Colin Bowman wired a slapshot from the point to make it 2-1 with 27 seconds left.
Kootenay improved to 8-3-2 while Moose Jaw fell to 6-5-1.
