TORONTO - Nazem Kadri is heading back to the American Hockey League.

The speedy forward was sent down to the Toronto Marlies on Thursday as the Toronto Maple Leafs recalled goalie Ben Scrivens.

Kadri has an assist and two penalty minutes in three games with the Leafs this season. The 21-year-old native of London, Ont., suffered a knee injury Sept. 27 at Ottawa and missed the first four games of the season.

With the return of injured forwards Tim Connolly and Tyler Bozak, Kadri found himself the odd man out.

Scrivens will back up Jonas Gustavsson while starting goaltender James Reimer continues to recover from whiplash suffered during Saturday's 5-4 overtime win over the Montreal Canadiens.

Scrivens has appeared in five games with the Marlies this season, posting a 4-1-0 record with a 2.41 goals-against average and .908 save percentage.

The 25-year-old native of Spruce Grove, Alta., played in two pre-season games with the Leafs. He won both with a 0.95 GAA and .958 save percentage.
