WINNIPEG - It's the night he's been waiting for since the NHL Draft back in June.
Tonight, Patrik Laine suits up and plays his first game as a member of the Winnipeg Jets. It may only be a pre-season game, but the Finnish winger still feels a few pre-game jitters.
"It's the moment that I've been waiting for to put on that jersey. … It's my first game here at my home arena," said Laine. "It will be an awesome night. I'm looking forward to my first shift."

The IIHF World Hockey Championship MVP and second overall draft pick will skate on a line with Nic Petan and Joel Armia when the Jets take on the Edmonton Oilers tonight.
Though it will be a special night, Laine doesn't want to try and force anything that isn't there for the sake of making a highlight reel.
"I know that everybody's expecting me to do something magical, but I just want to play my game and play the team's game," said Laine. "I just want to give the best (effort) I can, every shift.
"I know that that's enough for me and my teammates, so I don't have to worry about what other people are expecting. I was just want to give it my best shot."
The 21-year-old Petan will skate in his second game of the pre-season. He had three shots and led all forwards in ice time (19:49) in Tuesday's loss to Calgary.
He looks forward to playing alongside Laine, but doesn't want to change the style of play that got him into 26 NHL games last season.
"It's going to be interesting. It looks like he communicates quite well. We talked a little bit out there this morning," Petan said. "I'm going to go in playing the same way I always do. If I have a shot, I'll take it. I've always had a good pass mentality first, but I don't think my game changes tonight."

Speaking of pre-season debuts, Blake Wheeler, Mark Scheifele, and Dustin Byfuglien will play in their first game since the World Cup of Hockey.
Wheeler and Scheifele will have Kyle Connor on the wing. Connor scored the eventual game-winning goal in last night's 4-1 win over the Minnesota Wild.
"I've taken two line rushes with him so far… Obviously he had a great year last year," Wheeler said. "This will really be my first taste tonight. All indications are that he moves really well out there, and he should fit in nicely with (Scheifele) and I."

Puck drop tonight is 7 pm CT, with the game airing right here on WinnipegJets.com, or on TSN GO.
