LaBarbera, Brind'Amour, Ovechkin named NHL's Three Stars of the Week

NEW YORK -- Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jason LaBarbera, Carolina Hurricanes center Rod Brind’Amour and Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin have been named the NHL's 'Three Stars' for the week ending October 28.

FIRST STAR -- JASON LABARBERA, G, LOS ANGELES KINGS LaBarbera video  

LaBarbera posted a 3-0-0 record, 0.67 goals-against average, .976 save percentage and one shutout as the Kings won three consecutive home games. On Oct. 23, LaBarbera recorded his second career NHL shutout by making 17 saves as Los Angeles defeated the Nashville Predators 6-0. Two nights later, he recorded 29 saves as the Kings defeated the Dallas Stars 2-1. LaBarbera finished the week by making 34 saves in a 4-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Oct. 27. For the season, LaBarbera has posted a record of 4-2-0 with a 2.06 goals-against average, .925 save percentage and one shutout.

SECOND STAR -- ROD BRIND’AMOUR, C, CAROLINA HURRICANES Brind'Amour video

Brind’Amour led all scorers for the week with nine points (five goals, four assists) as the Hurricanes won three of four games. On Oct. 22, he recorded two assists as Carolina defeated the Vancouver Canucks, 3-1. He tallied one goal and one assist in a 6-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Oct. 24, notched one goal in a 7-4 loss to the Montreal Canadiens Oct. 26 and finished the week with three goals and one assist in an 8-3 victory over the New York Islanders on Oct. 27. Brind’Amour ranks second in NHL scoring with 18 points (six goals, 12 assists) in 12 games, while the Hurricanes lead the Southeast Division with a 7-2-3 record.

THIRD STAR -- ALEX OVECHKIN, LW, WASHINGTON CAPITALS Ovechkin video

Ovechkin ranked third among NHL scorers with seven points (two goals, five assists) in three games. He earned points on 70% of the Capitals' goals for the week, beginning with a goal and two assists in a 5-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Oct. 24. He recorded one goal and one assist in a 3-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks Oct. 26 and notched two assists in a 4-3 loss to St. Louis Blues Oct. 27. For the season, Ovechkin leads the Capitals with 13 points (six goals, seven assists) in 10 games.
