During the 2017-18 season, LA Kings staff, alumni and Ice Crew were joined by Blue Shield of California to build organic gardens at the East LA, Wilmington, North Valley and East Valley YMCA locations. Combined, these facilities are estimated to serve over 20,000 patrons on a monthly basis, 150 of which are engaged in new programming pertaining to healthy foods and gardening.

"It's so exciting to see the harvest grow. We live in apartments and are not able to grow anything," said Rosy Hernandez, a volunteer and parent patron of the Wilmington YMCA.
"I am happy to see my children visit the garden and learn about healthier, organic veggies, we were all very excited to see the flowers bloom and watch the cucumbers, the squash and the chili peppers grow."

Completed under the direction of Enrich LA, a community wellness non-profit organization that builds edible gardens for low-income youth and families in underserved neighborhoods of Los Angeles, these gardens were constructed as part of the team's G.O.A.L.S. programming.
G.O.A.L.S. is an umbrella program encompassing all LA Kings and Blue Shield of California sponsored character-building and wellness activities. By championing Green solutions, Open outlooks, Active bodies, Local leaders, and Sharp minds, G.O.A.L.S. equips children in Los Angeles with the practical skills and tools they need to lead healthy lives.
