Kuemper makes 29 saves leads Rebels to 2-1 victory over Cougars

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. - The Red Deer Rebels defeated the Prince George Cougars 2-1 Wednesday to move into sole possession of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Hockey League's Eastern Conference.

Coupled with Swift Current's 2-1 loss to Lethbridge Wednesday, the Rebels improved to 23-17-4, two points ahead of the Broncos.

Darcy Kuemper picked up the win in the Rebel goal, making 29 saves. Kyle Jahraus took the loss in his first game for the Cougars since being acquired from Seattle at the trade deadline Sunday.

Shots were 30-28 in favour of the Cougars, whose last-overall record fell to 9-33-2.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Andrej Kudrna were the Red Deer goalscorers. Kurna's winner came on the power play with nine seconds left in the second period. Jaroslav Vlach scored on a tip-in for the Cougars.
