Nolan Baumgartner, a retired NHL defenseman and former assistant with the Vancouver Canucks, will coach Canada. He also coached Canada at the 2022 Olympics. Todd Miller, former coach of Oshawa in the Ontario Hockey League, and David Struch, former coach of Regina in the Western Hockey League, were also named assistants. Brad Kirkwood, goalie coach for the University of Calgary and Calgary of the WHL, was named goaltending consultant.
"We are excited to unveil the coaching staff that will lead Canada's national men's under-18 team as it looks to defend last year's gold medal," Hockey Canada senior vice president of hockey operations Scott Salmond said. "We are fortunate to have a diverse and experienced coaching staff that includes Nolan's NHL and Olympic experience, Kori's gold medal pedigree with Canada's women's Olympic team and national women's under-18 team, veteran CHL experience from both Todd and David, and Brad's extensive background at the U SPORTS, WHL and Olympic levels."
Canada, the defending champion, will open the tournament with a Group A game against the United States. Also in Group A are the Czech Republic and Germany. Group B consists of Sweden, Finland, Switzerland and Latvia.
