Kootenay Ice score two early, hang on to beat Calgary Hitmen 3-1 @NHLdotcom

CALGARY - The Kootenay Ice scored twice in the first period and held on to beat the Calgary Hitmen 3-1 in Western Hockey League action Sunday.

Max Reinhart and Jesse Ismond each had a goal and an assist for the Ice (28-15-3), who have reeled off 12 straight victories. Brock Montgomery added an insurance marker in the third period.

Brandon Kozun scored a short-handed goal in the third for the Hitmen (29-15-2), who went 0-for-7 on the power play and failed to score during a pair of two-man advantages.

Kootenay goaltender Todd Mathews stopped 30 shots, while Martin Jones made 27 saves.
