BRAMPTON, Ont. - Valery Knyazev scored the lone shootout goal as the Brampton Battalion completed a home-and-home sweep against the Niagara IceDogs with a 4-3 victory on Friday night in the Ontario Hockey League.
The Battalion, who doubled up on the IceDogs 6-3 in St. Catharines on Thursday, jumped out to a 2-0 lead after a period. Stephon Thorne opened the scoring at 11:57 and Matt Clark added a power-play goal less than three minutes later.
After a scoreless second period, the IceDogs cut the deficit to one at 6:46 of the third on an Andrew Agozzino goal. Andrew Fritsch tied the game at 16:50.
One night removed from scoring a hat-trick, Sam Carrick netted the go-ahead goal at 18:18 but Agozzino sent the game to overtime with 20 seconds remaining in regulation, capitalizing on a mad scramble in front of the Battalion net.
With overtime settling nothing, the shootout was at a stalemate until Knyazev found the five hole on Petteri Simila in the third round. Patrick Killeen did his part, subsequently stopping Chris DeSousa to seal the victory.
Killeen made 33 saves for the Battalion, while IceDogs netminder Simila stopped 49 shots.
