Kirsch's first WHL goal lifts Hitmen to 2-1 win over Broncos @NHLdotcom

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. - Justin Kirsch's first career Western Hockey League goal early in the third period lifted the Calgary Hitmen to a 2-1 win over the host Swift Current Broncos on Wednesday.

Kirsch scored at the 2:24 mark of the final period to hand Swift Current their sixth straight loss on home ice. Calgary rookie Cody Beach scored his second goal of the season in the opening period to collect the other Hitmen goal.

Defenceman Derek Claffey opened the scoring 7:36 into the game with his sixth of the season to account for the lone Swift Current goal.

Hitmen goaltender Martin Jones improved to 22-10-0 with a 23-save performance.

Broncos netminder Morgan Clark falls to 15-12-1 despite turning aside 34 of 36 shots.

Calgary was held scoreless in seven power-play chances, while Swift Current went without a power-play goal in its only opportunity.

Calgary remains in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings at 34-16-2, while Swift Current drops to 26-25-3 and remains in ninth spot.
