Versatility is a trait of some of the best athletes. The same can be said for broadcasters.

And Kirk Herbstreit, a big Columbus Blue Jackets fan known for calling college football games on ESPN, seemed right at home Thursday.

At first intermission, Herbstreit joined Jeff Rimer in the booth and was right on point with his analysis of the Blue Jackets.

He broke down Brandon Saad's first period goal, citing Alexander Wennberg's screen of Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne, like a seasoned veteran.

"I just love watching them," Herbstreit said. "We're fired up for this season and, who knows, maybe the postseason... I don't want to jinx them!"
