Tyler Toffoli skated on the Los Angeles' Kings top line in a scrimmage Saturday, taking the place of injured Dustin Brown alongside Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams.
The slight injury Brown suffered during an on-ice drill Thursday is located in his hamstring and shouldn’t have a major impact in preparations for the season, coach Darryl Sutter told LA Kings Insider.
"We're just going to be careful with [Brown]," Sutter said. "It's not very often a hockey player other than a goalie has a hamstring [injury], so I just want to be careful with him. ... Just make sure he’s getting ready for the end of camp."
Brown will not play in either split-squad preseason game Sunday against the Phoenix Coyotes, Sutter said.
New Jersey Devils wing Jaromir Jagr, sidelined with lower body soreness, did not skate Saturday on his own or with teammates, NJ.com reported.
"I did see him and he’s feeling better," coach Peter DeBoer told the website. "I'm not concerned about it in the long term. So we’re not going to rush him. He's kind of setting his own timetable right now for when he wants to get back out."
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Frazer McLaren left a scrimmage Saturday after taking a slash from Carter Ashton. The team's website said McLaren was scheduled for X-rays to determine the severity of the injury.
Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews, who was held out of a scrimmage Friday because of a lower-body injury, is improved but most likely won't be on the ice Sunday, coach Joel Quenneville told the Chicago Tribune.
Carolina Hurricanes forward Jiri Tlusty, who was hit hard along the boards Friday, was held off the ice Saturday and is likely to return Monday, coach Kirk Muller told the team's website.
