Kings stay hot, beat Avalanche in shootout @NHLdotcom

Rookie Jordan Weal scored the deciding goal in the sixth round of the shootout to give the Los Angeles Kings a victory against the Colorado Avalanche in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The teams meet again Saturday in Las Vegas, with the Avalanche (0-5-2) trying to avoid a winless preseason. The Kings (5-0-1) have won five in a row.

Tyler Toffoli gave the Kings a 1-0 lead 3:37 into the game when he tapped in a pass from Jeff Carter to complete a 2-on-1. Colorado got even at 19:46 when Max Talbot beat Jonathan Quick with a high shot from the slot for a power-play goal. It was the eighth non-shootout goal for Colorado in seven games.

Reto Berra made 42 saves for Colorado but was beaten twice in the shootout when a save would have given the Avalanche a victory. Quick stopped 20 of 21 shots in two periods and Martin Jones made 13 saves in the third period and OT.
