Kings' Muzzin expects to be ready for opener

by Staff

Los Angeles Kings defenseman Jake Muzzin said Thursday he expects to play in the season opener.

Muzzin sustained an upper-body injury in a preseason game against the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday. He has missed four full-team practices, the Orange County Register reported, but has skated and performed shooting drills three days in a row.

Muzzin told the newspaper his injury is not serious.

"I was a little scared, a little nervous, but we had it looked at," he said.

The report said defenseman Matt Greene (injury, illness) might not be ready for the opener, which is Wednesday, Oct. 7, at home against the San Jose Sharks. Greene has not practiced or skated since Sunday.
