CRANBROOK, B.C. - Kevin King and Dustin Sylvester each had a goal and an assist as the Kootenay Ice dumped the Medicine Hat Tigers 6-2 to take a 1-0 lead in their best of seven playoff series in Western Hockey League action Friday night.

Matt Fraser, Hayden Rintoul, Brock Montgomery and Joey Leach had the other markers for Kootenay.

Emerson Etem and Matt MacKay scored for the Tigers.

Etem opened the scoring for the Tigers at the 5:56 mark only to have the Ice tie on a wrist-shot by King four minutes later.

MacKay put the Tigers back up 2-1 at 17:07 but Fraser tied it with 30 seconds left in the period.

Montgomery's goal chased Tiger goaltender Tyler Bunz from the net in favour of Deven Dubyk, and then two more in the third period from Sylvester and Leach, with an empty-netter, to seal the 6-2 win.

Todd Mathews stopped 25 of 27 shots to get the win while Tyler Bunz stopped 20 of 24 shots he faced to take the loss.
