WINDSOR, Ont. - Kerby Rychel scored two goals, including the game winner, and Jack Campbell made 31 saves as the Windsor Spitfires defeated the Saginaw Spirit 3-2 in Ontario Hockey League action Thursday.
John McFarland scored twice to give the Spirit (1-2-0) a 2-0 lead before the game was six minutes old when the Florida Panthers prospect took advantage of a pair of turnovers in the Windsor defensive zone and scored on the first two shots on Campbell.
The game seemed to turn in Windsor's favour when Saginaw rookie Vadim Khloptov fired wide on a penalty shot in the second period.
Rychel scored his first goal of the game on a Windsor power play that almost immediately followed the missed penalty.
Brady Vail tied the game just 54 seconds into the third period when he put a rebound off a shot by Jordan Maletta past Saginaw netminder Jake Paterson for his first goal of the season.
Rychel scored the winner for Windsor (2-2-0) with 3:30 remaining in the third period when he one-timed a pass from Alexander Khokhlachev while standing in the slot.
Paterson was stellar while making 35 saves.
