ERIE, Pa. - Kale Kerbashian had a goal and an assist, while Mike Yovanic and Jared Knight added two assists apiece to lead the London Knights past the Erie Otters 5-2 on Saturday night in the Ontario Hockey League.
London (19-5-0-1) extended its winning streak to eight straight games, while the Otters (11-12-1-0) lost consecutive games for the first time since a season-high five-game losing streak in early October.
The Knights scored twice in the opening five minutes to build a 2-0 lead. Rookie Colin Martin opened the scoring in his OHL debut 3:16 into the first period. Less than two minutes later, defenceman Kevin Montgomery - who was recently returned to London from Lake Erie of the AHL - scored his second goal of the season.
Left wing Sean Jones momentarily sparked Erie at the 7:07 mark of the period, as he tied captain Zack Torquato for the team lead with 10 goals, but Justin Taylor's 13th goal of the season regained the Knights' two-goal lead.
Vladimir Roth rounded out the scoring for London. Andrew Yogan scored on the power play in the second period for the Otters.
London goaltender Trevor Cann made 26 saves while Jaroslav Janus and Shane Owen split Erie netminding duty. Janus surrendered three goals on nine shots a night after allowing five goals in a decisive 8-minute stretch against the Rangers. Owen, who replaced Janus with 5:45 left in the opening period, stopped 17 of 19 shots.
