EVERETT, Wash. - Kent Simpson stopped 40 shots, leading the Everett Silvertips to a 4-2 victory over the Portland Winterhawks on Friday night in Western Hockey League action.
Simpson was particularly strong in the third period, denying three free chances on goal and turning aside all 15 shots he faced as the Winterhawks poured on the pressure.
Jesse Mychan, Ryan Harrison, Cody Fowlie and Brennan Yadlowski scored goals for Everett (1-1-2), which never trailed in the game. The victory was Everett head coach Mark Ferner's first with the Silvertips.
Derrick Pouliot and Taylor Leier scored for Portland (3-3-0). Mac Carruth made 27 saves in goal for the Winterhawks.
