Kelowna Rockets give up early lead but beat Silvertips in shootout 5-4 @NHLdotcom

EVERETT, Wash. - The Kelowna Rockets coughed up a late lead, but then won in the shootout to beat the Everett Silvertips 5-4 Saturday night in their Western Hockey League season opener.

Kelowna led 4-2 with less than three minutes remaining, but Everett scored two quick goals. Filip Vasko scored the deciding goal in the seventh round of the shootout as the Rockets prevailed 3-2.

Tyson Baillie, Spencer Main, Colton Sissons and Cody Chikie scored in regulation for Kelowna (1-0-0). Adam Brown stopped 31 shots to earn the win in goal for the Rockets.

Tyler Maxwell scored twice to lead Everett (0-0-2), which lost both its games so far in shootouts. Maxwell's second tied it up at 4-4 with 1:52 remaining.

Josh Birkholz and Josh Winquist also scored for Everett in regulation. Kent Simpson made 32 saves in goal for the Silvertips.
