ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - Kaspars Daugavins scored twice to lead the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors to a 7-4 victory over the Niagara IceDogs Thursday night in Ontario Hockey League action.
Niagara made a game of it in the third period. Trailing 6-2 after two periods, the IceDogs cut the lead to 6-3 at 7:22 of the final frame on a power-play goal by Patrick Lee. Just 1:29 later, Niagara shaved the margin to 6-4 on a goal by Chris DeSousa.
Mississauga capped the scoring late on a goal by Kale Kerbashian, killing any chance of a comeback.
Devante Smith-Pelly, Jared Gomes, Jordan Mayer and Corey Bureau also scored for Mississauga (34-24-1-2), which scored on four of its first six shots, chasing IceDogs starting goalie Jeremy Smith. Mark Visentin made 32 saves on 35 shots in relief.
Alex Friesen and Drew Schiestel also scored for Niagara (25-26-4-6).
Majors goaltender Chris Carrozzi made 28 saves for the win.
