CALGARY - Tomas Karpov scored the game-winning goal on a power play in the second period to lead the Calgary Hitmen to a 2-1 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes in Western Hockey League playoff action on Sunday afternoon.
Kris Foucault also scored for the Hitmen, who went 2-for-8 with the man advantage, while goalie Martin Jones made 23 saves to improve his record to 6-0 this post-season.
With the win, the Hitmen took a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Hurricanes, who will host the next three games in Lethbridge on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
Foucault notched his fifth goal of the playoffs in the opening period for the Hitmen before Luca Sbisa scored the lone goal of the game for the Hurricanes 17 seconds into the second to tie the game at 1-1.
Karpov then took a pass from Joel Broda in the slot and roofed a shot over the outstretched glove of Lethbridge goalie Juha Metsola at 15:09 of the second to give the Hitmen a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Metsola stopped 29 shots in a losing cause.
