Justin Dowling's hat trick powers Broncos to 5-4 win over Wheat Kings

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. - Justin Dowling scored his first-career Western Hockey League hat trick in leading the Swift Current Broncos to a 5-4 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday.

Dowling now has 18 goals on the season, including 12 in his past nine games. The 19-year-old scored a goal in each period, with his hat trick coming at 4:30 of the third.

Swift Current got goals from Derek Claffey and Cody Eakin, with his league-leading 25th of the season.

Aaron Lewadniuk led the Wheat Kings with a pair of goals. Matt Calvert, with his 18th of the season, and Jay Fehr also scored for Brandon.

Broncos goaltender Morgan Clark improved to 12-8-1 on the year with a 26-save performance. Wheat Kings netminder Andrew Hayes dropped to 12-8-1 after surrendering five goals on 35 shots.

Swift Current was 2-for-6 on the power play, while Brandon was unable to convert five man-advantage opportunities.

The Broncos improve to 14-12-2. Brandon's four-game winning streak ends with the Wheat Kings falling to 17-11-2.

Brandon still holds a 3-1 lead over Swift Current in their six-game regular-season series.
