Justin DiBenedetto of Sarnia Sting named CHL player of the week

TORONTO - Justin DiBenedetto of the Sarnia Sting was named Canadian Hockey League player of the week Wednesday.

He had nine points (five goals, four assists) in three games last week. The 20-year-old from Vaughan, Ont., is in his fifth Ontario Hockey League season and third with the Sting.

Evander Kane of the Vancouver Giants was the Western Hockey League nominee. Jordan Caron of the Rimouski Oceanic was the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League nominee.

Also Wednesday, Calvin Pickard of the WHL's Seattle Thunderbirds was named CHL goaltender of the week.

Maxim Gougeon of Rimouski and Peter Di Salvo of the OHL's Barrie Colts were also considered.
