PLYMOUTH, Mich. - JT Miller made his first Ontario Hockey League goal count as his score at 11:45 of the third period lifted the Plymouth Whalers to a 3-2 win over the Ottawa 67's on Friday night.
Miller, a first-round pick of the New York Rangers this past June, was a 2009 draft choice of the Whalers and played two years with the U.S. National Team Development Program. He had planned on playing for the University of North Dakota before signing with the Rangers and reporting to the Whalers.
"Basically what I did was weigh all my options to see how I could get to the NHL the quickest," said Miller. "I just went with my gut and realized I need to look out for myself. I'm glad it's worked out the way it has."
Mitchell Heard and Garrett Meurs also scored for Plymouth (2-1-0), while Scott Wedgewood made 27 saves.
Sean Monahan scored both goals for Ottawa (2-1-0) and Petr Mrazek finished with 25 stops.
