SARNIA, Ont. - Josh Shalla scored three goals to lead the Saginaw Spirit to a 7-1 rout of the Sarnia Sting in Ontario Hockey League play Wednesday.
Vincent Trocheck had a goal and two assists for the Spirit (31-27-8), who sit sixth in the Western Conference, one point back of fifth place Owen Sound and three behind the fourth-place Sting.
Brandon Saad added an goal and an assist while Terry Trafford and Vadim Khlopotov also scored.
Brett Thompson replied for the Sting (33-26-7) in the third period.
NHL prospect Alex Galchenyuk made his long awaited return to the ice, after missing the first five months of the season due to knee surgery. Galchenyuk, who injured his knee in a pre-season game said he's got some work to do.
"It was weird. I'm not used to it, so it was really hard and I'm now trying to get my game shape and my timing back," Galchenyuk said.
Jake Paterson got the win in goal for Saginaw, making 25 saves.
Sarnia goaltender JP Anderson allowed all seven goals on 34 shots.
Both teams struggled on the power play, with Saginaw going 0-for-3, while the Sting scored once in seven opportunities.
