Josh Bailey and the New York Islanders are close to a multiyear contract, TSN reported Thursday.

The 28-year-old forward is in the final season of a five-year contract and can become an unrestricted free agent July 1. The new contract will be five or six years long, TSN said.

Bailey has 62 points (15 goals, 47 assists) in 57 games this season, second on the Islanders in points, two behind John Tavares. Bailey has set an NHL career high in points and assists and is one goal from his career high, set in 2009-10. Bailey played in the NHL All-Star Game for the first time this season.

Selected by New York in the first round (No. 9) of the 2008 NHL Draft, Bailey has 368 points (121 goals, 247 assists) in 696 NHL games. He is the longest tenured player on the Islanders.
New York (29-26-6, 64 points), which visits the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday (7 p.m. ET; TSN4, MSG+2, NHL.TV), is one point behind the Columbus Blue Jackets for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference.
