SAGINAW, Mich., - Jordan Skellett scored the eventual game winning goal as the Saginaw Spirit held on to beat the Erie Otters 3-2 in Ontario Hockey League action Saturday night.
Skellett's goal at 14:20 of the third period put the Spirit (20-9-0-2) ahead 3-1 but Ryan O'Reilly scored less then a minute later to close the gap to one.
The Otters (14-16-2-0), outshot the Spirit 18 to eight in the final period but could not find the equalizer as Edward Pasquale shut them out the rest of the way.
The teams traded first period goals with Brandon Biggers putting Erie ahead early at the 6:07 mark only to see Saginaw tie the game 32 seconds later on a goal from Richard Jarusek.
Tyler Murovich scored the lone Spirit goal in the second period.
Jack Combs and Chris Chappell each added a pair of assist for Saginaw who outshot Erie 40-39.
